The primary deficit of energy resources and low efficiency in generation, transmission, distribution and use of electricity, it is necessary to make an intelligent monitoring systems, control and management of the energy. In practical activities this emphasizes delivering electricity to customers, but also other types of services related to energy, use of IT and other types of network solutions (e.g. standards of industrial automation and building automation), to ensure proper quality of supplied energy and media, reducing the cost of distribution, increasing the efficiency and integration of distributed energy sources, including RENEWABLE ENERGY SOURCES.


Scientific Research Areas: In the field of building automation it is expected to investigate a research concerning to the integration of building automation systems (lighting, access control, HVAC, fire prevention etc.) using various technologies, in particular, the international standard PN-EN 14908 (LonWorks). As well as, research will be conducted on the same building automation devices, related to control of different components and subsystems of the building infrastructure: development of functional application modules, building automation, development and testing of different algorithms activities for building automation devices, along with an implementation and test installations on real objects. These activities will be the basis for the development of rules and guidelines to organize control and monitoring systems in various construction projects, aimed at optimizing the energy consumption and utilities. It enables to create optimal solutions for the construction of needed public facilities in modern building management systems-BMS. In addition, it is planned to carry a research concerning to the exchange of data via computer control networks, with a particular focus on security issues and determination of time data exchange.All of the above mentioned areas and issues are also closely linked with the subject in the last few years, these research activities aimed at the implementation of remote system metering of electric energy consumers (and other utilities), so-called. Smart Metering. This topic will be an important part of the research program, also taking into account the wider perspective of the planned activities regarding to the construction of smart power grids - Smart Grid. Ultimately, buildings have to be the major component with well structured monitoring and control system, potentially to generate savings both for their users and other recipients of the electric energy.


Scientific Research Program:

In the laboratory it is planned to create research positions for various building automation standards. It is expected to measure energy consumption in new areas of each individual position, as well as to implement a remote system, reading parameters of selected network counters. This will provide a training system of Smart Metering, enabling familiarization with the idea of ​​remote metering on the basis of observation and organization of its activities, for example, pilot plant installation. 
Within the laboratory’s framework, research will also be focused on functionality of typical devices and technological subsystems buildings (air conditioning, ventilation, heating, OZE). It will be possible to test new functionality, optimal control algorithms and integration of these subsystems. An essential part of this research will also focus on development and validation of modern technological devices of the control algorithms with are already mentioned ventilation systems (including air conditioning , control panels with heat recovery), using modeling objects in the environment and LabView signalexpress™ and actual drivers of automatic buildings.The use of tested devices and HVAC subsystems are also now introduced new ways of predictive control algorithms. Hence, it is advisable to study verification, development of recommendations and guidelines in their formation, including the specifications of different types of objects.Building automation can affect the energy properties of buildings, thus contributing to improve their energy efficiency and optimization of parameters of different sub-systems and components of the technical infrastructure. Research will be conducted to the controls of building automation in compliance with standard EN 15232, which defines class of energy efficiency for buildings and classify the functionality of the building automation modules. In the coming years it is planned to introduce certificates of conformity with that standard for all building automation modules, which will have to be subject to specific tests. It is possible to obtain certification of laboratories in this field, as a center for conducting such tests and substantive support center manufacturers.
Innovative area in the field of building automation is the introduction and use of wireless technologies, as the parent network, serving remote access to data and settings over large areas, eg. business and technology parks, where the emergence of modern buildings, equipped from the outset in the automation and management of BMS. These technologies require research on their reliability, data handling capabilities with dedicated protocols for industrial automation and building, including the use of mobile and portable interfaces. These interfaces make it possible to remotely carry out the integration, monitoring and control devices of building infrastructure. There is also an opportunity to develop special tool platforms, based on operating systems, which are generally found in mobile devices today.In addition, it is proposed to include the Centre for the management and monitoring of the building in the laboratory, which support to the building where the anticipated location of laboratories and in the future could be used to manage buildings across the University.

  • Smart electro-energy networks
  • Operational optimization of energy consumption in buildings and public facilities
  • Security of data transmission systems, teleinformatics systems and magisterial systems related to industrial applications and building
  • The reliability of communication technology and data transmission
  • Standardization the functionality of control and monitoring systems
  • Facility Management-Organisation of the BMS systems
  • The impact of automation, control and technical management of buildings on their energy property
  • Reducing the demand for energy - reducing the cost of the buildings - indirectly reducing the amount of pollution generated from the energy production
